It started off as a pitcher’s dual between starting pitcher Bobby Shore of Oklahoma and Scott Weismann of Clemson. The first few innings saw Weismann strike out 2. Shore walked one in the 1st, but walked away with no consequence.
Weismann walked the bases loaded in the top of the second, but no damage done as Kyle Parker chased down a line drive to right field. In the 3rd, he took them down in order. The bottom of the second saw Clemson’s Hinson single, steal second and third, and still no score…double-play ended the inning. Tally 0-0.
In the 4th, Reine, a stocky fella, dribbled a bunt base hit, stole a base, and was followed up by an RBI base hit by Bushyhead, then a third K by Weismann. 1-0 Oklahoma.
Clemson retaliated with three consecutive bases on balls to load the bases. Hinson then singled to score a run and tie the game. Jack Mayfield came in to pitch after Shore struggled in the 4th. Shaffer sac flied to right to bring the score to 2-1. Hinson stole for a second time, Boyd walked (6th for OU tonight, the first for Mayfield), Kieboom had a 2-run single to right-center and J.R. Robinson was called in to pitch. After a Clemson K and a failed attempt to steal Clemson leads 4-1 in the 4th.
In the top of the 5th, a BB and saved “wild pitch” kept the score at 4-1. But, Clemson hung on and Kyle Parker shot a triple deep to center field with two out. Max White missed the left field fly (due to lights?) by Miller to allow another run 5-1, and Hinson added another run on a single – 6-1 Clemson. Then, Mother Nature intervened.
Admittedly, tomorrow’s continuation may not be as detailed, as this blogger may not be able to capture all of the details of the game. She works during “standard work hours”. Sorry!
Game is due to resume at 4:30PM EST on Tuesday 06/23/10 on ESPNU. Can we all say: Fight Tigers, Fight Tigers, Fight, Fight, Fight!!! ???
