In the opening game of the NCAA regionals, the Clemson Tigers easily breezed past the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles. The final score: Clemson 10, Southern Miss 1.
Clemson bats were hot against starting pitcher Scott Copeland. He allowed six earned runs on nine hits, including two homeruns, in 5 1/3 innings. It was the first loss of the season for Copeland. It couldn’t have been an easy loss to stomach.
On the other hand, Scott Weismann had a great game – in full control of the Golden Eagle batters. He allowed one run on four hits in seven innings on the mound. He struck out six batters and walked only one.
Kyle Parker, the constant topic of “Will he stay or will he go pro?” speculation had two RBIs on one hit today. Let the conversation around this great student-athlete continue!
Clemson faces the winner of the Auburn-Jacksonville State game on Saturday night at 7PM EST. Southern Mississippi fights to stay in the tourney playing the round one losing team at 3PM EST.
